Broadband Internet has become a necessity in our modern society, but for many it may seem complicated and confusing. With so many options, which one is the right for you and how do you go about setting it up for your home or office?

You basically have 3 viable options to choose from:

   ADSL
   3G / HSDPA
   iBurst

Each of which have their own advantages depending on your location and needs.

ADSL:

ADSL is a fixed line solution that requires an ADSL line rental from Telkom, a modem, and an Internet Service Provider to offer you a selction of monthly data bundles depending on the amount of data you plan on using every month. Coverage is limited to your distance from one of Telkom's ADSL exchanges, check www.telkom.co.za for coverage in your area. Telkom offers 3 line speeds: 384k, 512K, 1Mb / 4Mb

3G / HSDPA:

3G is a wireless solution that requires a sim card, a modem and an Internet Service Provider for your data bundles. Coverage is available through most of South Africa but speed may vary depending on your area. If 3G coverage isn't available, your connection may slow down to EDGE or even GPRS speeds. 3G has a maximum speed of 384k while HSDPA currently has a speed of 3.6Mb/s but the technology is capable of faster. EDGE is 236kb/s and GPRS is 60Kb/s

iBurst:

iBurst is a wireless solution that requires a modem and an Internet Service Provider for your data bundles. Coverage is limited to only certain areas. Check if you have coverage on www.iburst.co.za . iBurst can reach speeds up to +/- 1Mb/s but the technology is capable of going to 5Mb/s
